We’ve been physical distancing for a month and a half now. Some days feel routine. Some days make my skin crawl. Some days my eyes are open to the details around me. Some days I’m just struggling to find things to be grateful for. But this is where I am at right now and I have to honour that.

This month has mostly been about photographing other families on their front steps, porches and patios. I have connected with so many people in Canmore through the Front Steps project and it’s developing into something much bigger than the stories I share through my lens. I’m excited to see what happens and will keep you posted.

My photography mentor, Kristine Nyborg, created additional photography assignments for our 21 Weeks group called 21 Weeks Corona Stories. She created assignments for both photographers and non-photographers with things to think about during these times. I didn’t complete all of the assignments but here are a few favourites…
Photograph what makes you truly happy right now…
Make a portrait of the people you are with (every.single.day)…
If you miss these crazy people you should check out the read aloud books we have been doing on Facebook live…
Get outside…
Make a self-portrait…

Photograph what your day looks like (or a mix of Mav’s days)…

But if you really want to know how Mav is doing check out the YouTube videos I’ve been doing about the parent coaching sessions we have been doing with the Strongest Families Institute.
Well that was April.
I’m interested to see what May brings, especially now that Alberta is beginning to re-launch. And I’m hoping that you get some time for yourself and that someone gives you flowers (or a painted jet) in the foreseeable future.

If you are interested in finding a personal photography project (or two) that fit with your life join me in my upcoming online class through artsPlace.
Beautiful stories and the boys look like you have kept them motivated and interested. Loved the one with the yoga.
Thanks Janice. I love that yoga one but the colour was making me crazy! Hope you and the family are well
